Top 3 Things We Do for CAA Members in an Emergency

What are the most requested roadside services CAA offers? Glad you asked! Although we are known for towing Members in a jam, a CAA Membership  does a lot more. In 2021, 11,763 Members called us for flat tires, while another 1,514 ran out of fuel. And that’s just part of the 50,000 calls we had for emergency services over the winter of 2021.

1. Lock-out Service

Have you ever locked your keys in the car? More importantly, did you get help quickly? James Chu (CAA Member since 1999) tells a story about how he has locked himself out of his car more than once. "I accidentally locked my car on the side of the 401 at a truck stop, and it was a cold winter day. CAA promptly came and unlocked my car in less than 30 minutes, saving my fuel and allowing me to resume my trip."

For lock-out service, call us at 1-800-CAA-HELP or use the CAA Mobile App. Using the app, you can get live updates on the service trackers with the estimated arrival time.

If your keys are lost or broken, or the service agent can't unlock your door, CAA North & East Ontario will dispatch a locksmith or reimburse you up to $50 for their service. If you still can’t get underway, we’ll help with a tow.

2. Extrication/Winching Service

CAA Members can have their vehicle extricated if it can be safely reached from a normally travelled or established thoroughfare or road. For safety and access reasons, extrication services are not available in plowed-in, snowbound or ice-covered alleys, streets, lanes, or driveways.

In case of any special equipment, more staff or vehicles are required, CAA will provide the necessary assistance. The associated costs may not be included in your Membership and be at your expense. Plus, and Premier Members are automatically covered for an additional vehicle and operator for up to one hour.

3. Emergency Fuel Delivery

Even with an onboard dashboard telling you how much fuel is left in the tank, it’s all too easy to run out – especially on a road trip. And it happens more often than you think.

But that’s where CAA can come to the rescue. CAA Members can call or use the CAA Mobile App to request an emergency fuel delivery. We’ll deliver 10L* of gasoline, so you'll have enough to reach the next pump. If 10L is not enough, the driver will tow your vehicle to the nearest gas station.

Classic® Members get up to 10L of gasoline delivered but will be charged the pump price when the driver arrives.

Plus® and Premier® Members get up to 10L of gasoline delivered to them at no charge.

*Coverage doesn't guarantee high-octane fuel. Emergency fuel delivery excludes diesel or propane and counts as one of the member's roadside assistance calls. If a CAA member's vehicle requires diesel, the driver will tow the car to the nearest station selling diesel.
